1. Herbal Charm Sachets

Herbal sachets are SUCH a wonderful and versatile way to harness nature’s healing properties, focusing on scents, aromas and perfumes. These witchy little charm bags can be used for cleansing spaces, enhancing your personal energy, or protecting your home.

In fact, combining dried herbs with powerful intentions can be a match made in magickal heaven…

Here are the quick steps to making your own herbal sachets:

1. Choose Your Herbs: Select dried herbs that align with your intention, or what seems to be growing in abundance around you. I often feel that whatever is showing up, grabbing my attention, has medicine for me.

You may use sage for cleansing, lavender flowers for relaxation, or rosemary for protection. Add dried flowers or other botanicals for added fragrance and energy frequencies.

2. Mix the Ingredients: In a bowl, combine your chosen dried herbs along with any additional ingredients, such as a few drops of essential oil, to enhance the scent and properties of your sachet (We LOVE this set of 6 essential oils)

3. Prepare Your Sachets: Take small fabric bags or drawstring muslin bags and fill them with the herbal mixture. Leave some space at the top to allow for tying or sealing.

4. Seal the Sachets: If using drawstring bags, simply pull the strings to close. For non-drawstring bags, you can tie them with a ribbon or string to secure the contents.

5. Charge Your Sachets: Hold the sachets in your hands and set your intention. Visualize the energy you wish to attract or the purpose of your sachet.

6. Choose where to place: Intentionally place your herbal sachets in areas where you want to invite that energy, such as closets, drawers, or under your pillow. Or hang above doorways, or carry in your pockets.

These also make great gifts, so enjoy your herbal sachets and share the power they bring.

2. Crystal grid

Crystal grids are powerful tools for focusing energy and intentions, using the unique properties of various crystals. Think carefully about the crystals that align with autumnal themes for you – from the abundance of raw citrine pendants to the clarifying nature of smoky quartz, your crystal grid will be far more powerful if it holds personal meaning.

Designing a crystal grid is highly intuitive, yet there are some steps to follow:

1. Select Your Crystals: Choose autumn-themed stones that resonate with your intentions. Citrine is great for abundance, carnelian for motivation, and smoky quartz for grounding and protection. You can also incorporate other crystals that align with your goals.

2. Choose a Base: Find a flat surface or a cloth to serve as the base for your grid. This could be a wooden board, a piece of fabric, or even your altar space (we absolutely LOVE this wooden geometry board)

3. Design Your Pattern: Decide on a geometric pattern for your grid. Common shapes include circles, triangles, or sacred geometry designs. Visualize how you want the energy to flow and arrange the crystals accordingly.

4. Place the Crystals: Start by placing a central stone that represents your main intention. Then, arrange the other stones around it in your chosen pattern, ensuring that they are evenly spaced and connected.

5. Activate the Grid: Once your crystals are arranged, take a moment to hold your hands over the grid and visualize your intentions flowing into the stones. You could also use a wand or a clear quartz point to connect the energy between the crystals, moving from one to another in a clockwise direction.

Keep infusing your crystal grid with energy and intention, keeping the energy alive and flowing throughout the whole autumn season, and it will continue to amplify!

5. Oracle deck holder

Do you read the Tarot, or use oracle cards? Creating a holder or pouch for your oracle deck is a meaningful way to protect your cards and personalise your card-reading practice. Use fabric or leather, and decorate it with colours, patterns, symbols, sigils or runes to craft a unique holder that resonates with your energy and intentions.

Here’s how to craft a card deck holder:

1. Choose Your Fabric: Select a fabric or leather you are drawn to. Consider colours and textures that resonate with your personal practice. You’ll need enough material to create a pouch that comfortably holds your deck.

2. Cut the Fabric: Measure and cut a piece of fabric or leather to the desired size. A common size for a deck holder is approximately 10 inches by 7 inches, allowing for some extra space for ease of access.

3. Decorate the Holder: Before assembling, decorate the fabric or leather with symbols, runes, or designs with personal significance. You can use fabric paint, embroidery, or even leather stamping to create your designs. Be creative!

4. Sew or Fold the Pouch: If using fabric, fold the material in half so that the decorative side is inside. Sew along the sides, leaving the top open. If using leather, you can fold it and use strong adhesive or rivets to secure the sides.

5. Complete and Close: Turn the pouch inside out again, so that the decorative side is visible. If you like, add a closure, such as a button, snap, or drawstring, to keep your cards secure.

6. Nature altar

Creating a nature altar is SUCH a beautiful way to connect with the changing seasons and offer some devotional energy back to the Goddess.  By using elements like acorns, pinecones, and stones, you can craft a serene and sacred space that aligns with a specific intention and acts like a prayer to the elements of the natural world.

Here’s how to create your nature altar:

1. Select a Location: Choose a quiet and meaningful spot in your home or outdoors to set up your altar. This could be a small table or shelf, or the base of a tree outside (don’t get too hung up on it being perfect – let your intuition guide you).

2. Gather Natural Elements: Collect various natural items that resonate with you, and represent the autumn season. Look for acorns, pinecones, colourful leaves, fallen petals, stones, and any other elements that inspire you. You might also include seasonal flowers or herbs.

3. Arrange the Elements: Begin arranging your items on your chosen surface. You can create a symmetrical design or a more organic layout. Consider placing larger items at the back and smaller ones in front to create depth. Or alternatively, create a mandala-type pattern.

4. Add Personal Touches: Incorporate items that hold personal significance, such as crystals, candles, or photographs (you may want to leave this step out if your altar is in a public space). You can also add symbols or objects representing your intentions for the season, like a small bowl for gratitude or a figurine for protection.

5. Set Your Intentions: Once your altar is arranged, take a moment to sit quietly in front of it. Reflect on your intentions for the season and visualize them being infused into the space. You may want to light a candle and offer your gratitude to the Goddess, in honour of the changing season.

Your nature altar will serve as a sacred space for reflection, gratitude and intention-setting, allowing you to connect deeply with the energies of autumn and the natural world!

7. Witches journal

Starting a witches journal is a wonderful way to document your magical practices, reflect on your thoughts, and explore your spirituality. Starting a new journal each season can make it easier to align your practice with the wheel of the year, and help you to notice the patterns and changes occurring in your life, as you develop your craft.

Spend time decorating your journal with autumn motifs can help to infuse it with new life, create a bond between you and it, and also start to ritualise the act of journaling.

With the right start, your journal can become a personal sanctuary for your dreams, wishes, creativity and intentions for life.

How to start a witchy journal (as opposed to any other journal)!

1. Choose Your Journal: Select a journal that feels right for you. It can be a blank notebook, a spiral-bound journal, or even a leather-bound book. Consider the size, paper texture and weight that will inspire you to write. Here are some of my favourite choices:

2. Decorate the Cover: Use autumnal colours, symbols, images and patterns to personalise your journal cover. You can paint, draw, or collage images of leaves, pumpkins, acorns, or other seasonal symbols. Consider adding your favourite quotes, runes, or symbols that resonate with your witchy practice. Pinterest is a great place to go for inspiration.

3. Create Sections: Divide your journal into sections for different purposes, such as spell writing, dream journaling, or tracking your magical practices. Or section up your journal according to the Moon phases to track whether the Moon is waxing or waning. You can use tabs, coloured pages, or simply write headings at the top of each page to organize your thoughts. Be sure to create a contents page at the start.

4. Be intentional with each section: As you begin each section, take a moment to consider what you want to learn, move towards or manifest in each area of focus. For example, in the spell writing section, note what you hope to manifest, while in the dream journaling section, reflect on what you wish to learn from your dreams.

5. Make It a Ritual: Dedicate time each week to write in your journal. Use this time to reflect on your experiences, document your spells and rituals, and explore your thoughts and feelings as they relate to your witchy practice. Be sure to light a candle, and take a moment to connect to the sacred before you begin.

With practice, your witchy journal will become a cherished tool for self-discovery and magical exploration, allowing you to connect more deeply with your spirituality throughout the autumn season.

8. Autumn flower wreath

Creating an autumn flower wreath is a lovely way to celebrate the beauty of autumn and bring a touch of nature into your home (and wreaths aren’t just for Christmas!)

Using seasonal blooms like marigolds and goldenrod, along with herbs and twigs, plus any dried flowers from earlier in the summer, you can craft a vibrant and meaningful decoration.

Supplies you’ll need:

1. Gather Your Materials: Collect flowers, herbs, and twigs. Look for seasonal blooms such as chrysanthemums, goldenrod, lavender and dried grasses. MAke sure you have everything else to hand.

2. Prepare the Flowers and Twigs: Trim the stems of your flowers and herbs to about 4-6 inches in length. Make about 12 small bundles of flowers and twigs, in three or four different designs, securing with string.

3. Attach the Flowers: Secure the bunches around the wreath base, alternating designs, using string to and tie them tightly into place. Layer the bunches of flowers so that each one hides the string from the previous one. (Doing it like this, rather than attaching one flower stem at a time is SO much easier, and makes the wreath look much fuller, giving a more professional finish – trust me!)

4. Fill in Gaps: Add a few last flowers, herbs, twigs and grasses until the wreath is full and visually balanced. Be mindful of the overall shape and design, and feel free to experiment with different arrangements until you achieve the desired look.

5. Finish and Hang the Wreath: Once you’re satisfied with your wreath, secure any loose stems and trim any excess. Add any extra charms, plus ribbon or twine for hanging, and choose a prominent place to display your wreath, such as your front door or a wall in your home.

Your dried flower wreath will not only beautify your space but will also serve as a seasonal reminder of Mother nature’s bounty. Feel the gratitude every time you see your creation!

9. Moon water

Moon water is a powerful tool for enhancing your rituals and cleansing practices. By collecting water and charging it under the light of the full moon, you can infuse it with lunar energy, making a beautiful addition to your spiritual toolkit.

Here’s how to create Moon water:

1. Collect Your Water: Gather rainwater if possible, as it is often considered the most potent for magical purposes. If rainwater isn’t available, you can use tap water or filtered water. Choose a clean container, such as a glass jar or bowl, to hold the water.

2. Choose Your Timing: If you’re a beginner, create your moon water during the full moon, when the lunar energy is at its peak. This is the ideal time for charging water, as the full moon carries frequencies of abundance, clarity, and heightened intuition.

3. Set Your Intentions: Before placing the water outside, take a moment to set your intentions. Hold the container in your hands and visualize what you wish to achieve with the moon water—whether it’s for cleansing, manifestation, or enhancing your spiritual practice.

4. Charge Under the Moonlight: Place your container of water outside, ensuring it is exposed to the full moon’s light. Leave it out for several hours, ideally overnight, to absorb the moon’s energy. If you cannot place it outside, a windowsill that receives moonlight can also work.

5. Store and Use: Once charged, bring the moon water inside and store away from sunlight Label the jars with the date and any specific intentions. Use your Moon water in rituals, for cleansing crystals, or add to the tub when Moon bathing for an extra boost.

Moon water can be a beautiful way to incorporate the simple rhythm of the lunar cycles into your magical practices throughout the autumn season, giving another dimension to your craft as we enter the darker part of the year.

10. Runestone set

Runes are ancient symbols that hold powerful meanings and can be used for divination. Crafting your very own runestone set is a meaningful way to connect with ancient northern European marks and symbols and enhance your divination practices. It’s important to create your own relationship to the runes, as they are living spirits, and not simply symbols.

Here are some simple steps to craft your own runestone set:

1. Gather Your Materials: Select small, smooth stones or wooden pieces that are easy to handle. You’ll also need paint or carving tools, as well as a sealant (if using paint) to protect your designs.

2. Choose Your Symbols: Research the runes or symbols you wish to use for your set. You can opt for traditional runes from the Elder Futhark or play around with creating symbols of your own, that resonate with your personal journey.  Take a look at this book by Lara Veleda Vesta to learn more.

3. Prepare the Stones: Clean your stones or wooden pieces thoroughly to remove any dirt or debris. If using wood, sand the surfaces to create a smooth area for painting or carving.

4. Paint or Carve the Symbols: Using your chosen paint or carving tools, carefully apply the symbols onto each stone or piece of wood. Take your time! Ritualise the process and hold clear intentions as you work. If painting, allow the paint to dry completely before moving on to the next step.

5. Seal Your Runestones: Apply a clear sealant to protect the designs and ensure durability. This will help preserve your runestones for future use.

Once your runestone set is complete, you can use it for divination by casting the stones and interpreting their meanings or by selecting a stone intuitively for guidance. Your handcrafted runestones will serve as a personal connection to the ancient wisdom they represent.

11. Scrying mirror

A scrying mirror is a powerful tool for divination and self-reflection. this mirrors are an ancient witches tool made by darkening glass with paint to create an eerie surface for gazing into.

Scrying mirrors are incredible tools for gaining deeper insights during your spiritual practices. Here’s how to make your own:

1. Select Your Base: Choose a small piece of glass, ideally something like a picture frame. Be intuitive when making your choice, and consider whether you want your mirror to be handheld and portable, or large and placed somewhere more permanent in your home.

2. Prepare the Surface: If you’re using glass from a picture frame, take it apart and carefully clean everything. Ensure that the glass is clean and free of smudges.

3. Paint your glass: Turn the glass over, and paint the back surface of it in a layer of black paint (poster paint, craft paint or water-based emulsion are all fine). When that’s dry, apply another smooth coat. To ensure you have an opaque finish you may need to apply a third coat. After your last coat, add a symbol or sigil to seal your mirror.

4. Put your mirror back together: If using a frame, re-construct the mirror, ensuring that the painted side of the glass is facing inwards, and the glass faces outwards.

4. Set Your Intentions: Before using your scrying mirror, take a moment to set your intentions. Hold the mirror in your hands and visualize what you wish to gain from your scrying practice, whether it’s clarity, guidance, or insight into a specific situation.

5. Use Your Scrying Mirror: To begin scrying, find a quiet space, dim the lights and light a candle. Sit comfortably and gaze into the mirror’s surface, allowing your mind to relax. Focus on your breath and let images, symbols, or feelings arise naturally. Trust your intuition as you interpret what you see.

13. Incense blend

Creating your own incense blends is a really gorgeous way to enhance your rituals and bring the calming scents of autumn into your space. By experimenting with dried herbs and resins, you can craft unique blends that resonate with seasonal energies and promote relaxation, focus, or spiritual connection.

Creating an incense blend of your own needn’t be daunting. Here’s how you can have a go yourself:

1. Gather Your Ingredients: Collect dried herbs, flowers, and resins that evoke the essence of autumn. Here’s a selection to start with:

You may also want to include a base ingredient like powdered wood or charcoal to help your blend burn evenly.

2. Choose Your Ratios: Decide on the proportions of each ingredient based on the scent profiles you desire. A good starting point is to use a combination of equal parts of your chosen herbs and resins, adjusting as needed to achieve the desired fragrance.

3. Grind the Ingredients: Using a mortar and pestle (THIS large granite set is perfect, and almost cauldron-like!) or a spice grinder, finely grind your dried herbs and resins. This will help release their essential oils and create a more potent blend. Be sure to mix thoroughly to ensure an even distribution of the scents.

4. Add a Binding Agent (Optional): If you want to create solid incense sticks or cones, you can add a binding agent, such as natural gum arabic or even honey, to your blend. This will help the mixture hold together when shaped.

5. Store Your Incense: Once your blend is complete, transfer it to a small glass jar or airtight container. Label the jar with the ingredients so you can remember what went into your blend (this will help you next time you want to whip up a fresh batch). You can use your incense in rituals, meditation, or simply enjoy the comforting scents of autumn by burning it on a charcoal disc or in an incense burner in your home over the coming months.

Enjoy the process of experimentation, and the personal touch this adds to your magickal practice. As you get more confident, you’ll be able to choose blends that align with your intentions and magickal motivations.

Incense is also an AMAZING craft to make together at your next witchy craft circle or coven meet-up.

14. Magickal oil

Similar to making incense, crafting magickal oil is a wonderful way to enhance your rituals and spells with your own personal energy. By infusing oils with herbs, essential oils, and other natural ingredients, you can create a powerful tool that resonates with your intentions and harnesses the specific energies of the season.

Here’s how to create your own magickal oil:

1. Choose Your Base Oil: Select a carrier oil that suits your needs. Common choices include olive oil, jojoba oil, sweet almond oil, or grapeseed oil ((we LOVE this cold-pressed jojoba oil!) The base oil will serve as the foundation for your magickal properties.

2. Select Your Ingredients: Gather the herbs, flowers, roots, stems and/or berries that you want to infuse (do a little research beforehand to make the right choices for you). For example, if you’re focusing on protection, you might use rosemary and black pepper. For love, consider rose and vanilla.

It’s better to use dried ingredients as a leaves, flowers and berries with a high water content may cause the oil to spoil.

3. Combine the Ingredients: In a clean glass jar, combine your chosen base oil with the herbs and other ingredients. If using essential oils, start with a few drops and add more as needed.

4. Infuse the Oil: Seal the jar tightly and place it in a cool dry spot for a minimum of 2 weeks to allow the ingredients to infuse. You can gently shake the jar each day to help release the properties of the herbs and oils. For a quicker infusion, you can use a double boiler method (this is MY favourite pan) heating the mixture gently for a few hours.

5. Strain and Store: Once the oil has reached your desired potency, strain out the herbs using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth. Transfer the infused oil to amber glass dropper bottles into roll-on bottles for personal use. Label the bottle with the name of the oil and its intended purpose.

Your magickal oil can be used in various ways, such as anointing candles, dressing crystals, or applying it to pulse points for personal energy. This is a beautiful and powerful witchy practice that really will infuse your life with added potency and magick.

15. Protection poppet

Protection poppets are a unique way to harness the power of magickal intention and combine this with natural ingredients, to ward off negativity. These small, stitched figures can serve as charms or talismans, providing a sense of security and protection in your space.

There are so many ways to make poppets as they (or something similar) appear in many, many magickal traditions around the world. Here’s a simple method, but feel free to adapt and make yours however feels true for you:

1. Gather Your Materials: Choose a fabric that resonates with you, such as cotton or felt, and gather sewing supplies like a needle, thread, and scissors. You’ll also need protective herbs, such as rosemary, sage, or black salt, to fill your poppet. Consider adding something from your own body too – hair, fingernail clippings, saliva, menstrual blood. This may sound strange, but it’s what will form a stronger personal connection between you and your poppet.

2. Cut the Fabric: Decide on the size and shape of your poppet. A simple doll shape is effective, but you can get creative with different forms. Cut two pieces of fabric in the same shape for the front and back of the poppet.

3. Sew the Poppet: Place the two fabric pieces together, with the decorative side facing inward. Using a needle and thread, sew around the edges, leaving a small opening at the top or side for filling. Use a simple running stitch or backstitch for durability.

4. Fill with Protective Herbs: Once you’ve sewn the poppet, turn it inside out so that the decorative side is facing out. Carefully fill it with your chosen protective herbs, ensuring you pack them in well. As you fill the poppet, focus on your intention for protection and safety.

5. Close and Charge the Poppet: After filling, sew the opening closed securely. You can then hold the poppet in your hands and visualize a protective shield surrounding you or your space. You may also want to add a charm or symbol that represents protection, such as a small piece of black tourmaline or a protective sigil.

Your protection poppet can be placed in your home, carried with you, or kept in a sacred space to help ward off negativity and enhance your sense of security.

Try not to forget about your poppet, and neglect it. If in the future  you feel you no longer need it, intentionally take it apart and dispose of the materials.
