March is such a great month here in the Northern Hemisphere. It is a welcome time of renewal, growth, and balance as the Spring Equinox (Ostara) on March 21st marks the midpoint between light and dark across the globe.
With the season of blooming and awakening upon us, it’s a wonderful time to get creative, and harness some of this month’s expansive influence.
This article describes 20 witchy crafts perfect for connecting with March’s energy.

So let’s dive in…
1. Ostara egg charms
Eggs have long been sacred symbols of fertility, renewal, and the cycle of life, making them powerful tools for Springtime magic.
Decorate eggs and infuse them with your intentions, by painting them with sigils, runes, or alchemical symbols representing growth, transformation, and manifestation.
Use gold or silver ink to invoke celestial energies, or dye them in colours aligned with your purpose for the season.
As you craft, visualize the egg as a vessel of pure potential, charged with the energies of rebirth.
Place your completed eggs on your altar, bury them in your garden to bless the land, or keep one as a talisman of renewal throughout the turning of the Wheel.
2. Spring altar cloth
Your altar is a sacred gateway between realms, and its cloth sets the foundation for your magical workings. March is the ideal time to renew your altar cloth.
Weave, embroider, decorate or paint a new altar cloth with symbols of the Spring – hares, eggs, budding branches, or spirals representing the cycle of life.
Embroider it with protective runes or planetary sigils to enhance your altar’s potency.
3. Flower crown
The ancients believed that wearing a crown of flowers aligned one’s spirit with the divine forces of nature.
Weave a wreath using fresh blossoms, ivy, pussy willow, and any other grasses and sacred herbs you can find at this time of year.
Speak your desires for love, prosperity, or transformation into the crown as you create it. Wear it during your Ostara rituals, leave it on your altar, or place it outside as an offering to the fae and spirits of the land.
4. Equinox balance stones
The Spring Equinox on March 21st is a moment of equilibrium, where light and darkness are held in perfect harmony.
Collect smooth stones and paint them with contrasting colours – gold and black, white and silver – to symbolize this balance. You could also inscribe them with alchemical or planetary symbols representing unity and transformation. Hold them in meditation, place them on your altar, or use them in spellwork to call forth stability and alignment.
5. Beeswax candles
Fire is the great illuminator, catalyst, and bridge between the physical and spiritual planes.
Craft candles from pure beeswax, add essential oils for the season, and dress them with herbs that resonate with the energy of rebirth – parsley, sage and rosemary are great choices.
As you pour or roll each candle, whisper your intentions into the wax, sealing your spell within.
Light them during rituals to invoke the warmth and life-giving power of the returning sun. Get your supplies here:
- 2 lb Pure White Beeswax Pellets – the creme-de-la-creme for candlemaking (you can also use this for soap and cosmetics).

6. Plant Magic Journals
As nature comes back to life and shoots, leaves and buds are bursting forth, take real notice of what’s growing in your part of the world.
Start a Book of Shadows specifically for plant magic, to serve as a personal grimoire of earthly wisdom.
Decorate a journal with pressed flowers, and include handwritten observations, experiences with different herbs, plant messages and incantations, dedicating it to the spirits of the green world.
Let each page become a living spell, deepening your connection with plant magic and the sacred rhythms of nature.
You could fill a simple ring binder with loose pages, or start a special witchy journal – these are beautiful:
- Stunning green leather bound journal with key detail – SO beautiful!
- Sun & moon leather journal
- Lunar moth journal – a stunning handmade notebook for your book of spells
7. Willow wand
Willow is sacred to the moon, water, and the unseen realms, making it a powerful wand material.
March is likely the last time you can prune willow, before it comes into leaf. So with respect and gratitude, harvest a stem with the intention of wand-making.
Wrap it in silver thread, attach charms or crystals, and dedicate it under the light of the full moon.
Use it to direct energy, open portals between worlds, and strengthen your connection to the fae and spirits of the land.

8. DIY bird feeders
Birds are messengers between worlds, and many witches believe they carry wisdom from the spirit realm to the earthly plane.
Create bird feeders using pinecones, fat, and seeds, blessing them as offerings for nature’s sacred creatures.
Speak a spell of gratitude as you hang them in trees in your garden, asking for guidance and harmony in return. Then observe which birds visit – each will carry its own omen and mystical meaning.
9. Spring sun catchers
Harness the power of the returning sun by crafting easy DIY sun catchers.
Wire-wrap crystals like clear quartz, citrine, or sunstone (if you feel called, weave in charms of butterflies, eggs, or spirals for added detail and power).
Hang them in windows where they’ll refract light, filling your space with protective and energizing frequencies.

10. Flower-pressed bookmarks
Press early spring flowers like violets, crocuses, or daisies between the pages of a heavy book. Once dried (this may take a couple of weeks, so plan ahead!) seal them onto cardstock or thin wooden bookmarks with glue, adding your favourite affirmations or lines of poetry.
These simple, personalised bookmarks are beautiful to use in spellbooks, grimoires, or seasonal reads.
11. Pressed flower lanterns
Don’t stop there! Once you have a stock of dried flowers, you can use them to create a beautiful upcycled glass jar lantern.
Simply glue your dried flowers onto a glass jar, adding as many or as few as you like to form stunning patterns.
Place a tea light inside to create a beautiful, glowing lantern that symbolizes the returning light, and life awakening all around (even after dark!)
12. Violet-infused oil
It’s around March that the first violets appear in the UK (and I think it’s similar in some states in the US).
With their delicate petals and profound healing and protective qualities, violets make a perfect infused oil for the early days of spring. This gentle, heart-opening oil can be used for anointing candles, in self-care rituals, or as a soothing skin remedy.
What you’ll need:
- Fresh violet flowers
- A light carrier oil (sweet almond, jojoba, or olive oil)
- A small glass jar with a lid
- A strainer or cheesecloth
How to make it:
Gather & cleanse: Gather your violet flowers, and ensure they are free of dirt and moisture
Fill the jar: Place the flowers into the jar, filling to the top. Pour the carrier oil over them, fully submerging the petals.
Let it steep: Seal the jar and place it in a warm, dark spot for 4–6 weeks, shaking gently every few days.
Strain & store: Once infused, strain out the petals and transfer the oil to a clean bottle. Store in a cool, dark place and use as needed.
This soft, floral oil carries the gentle magic of violets, offering calm, love, and emotional balance with every drop. You can apply straight to the skin, or make balms or creams, or use in spellwork and magick.
13. Seed paper paper (for the Worm Moon)
A fun way to work with March’s Worm Moon energy is by making seed paper – a biodegradable way to plant your intentions into the earth.
Shred old paper and mix with warm water until it makes a pulp.
Add wildflower seeds, then flatten the mixture onto a screen or cloth and press it into thin sheets.
Once dry, write intentions, affirmations, symbols or sigils onto your paper, or simply them as they are.
Charge your seed paper under the light of the full Worm Moon, before burning in the soil, letting your wishes take root in the earth.
14. Leaf-moulded offering bowls
These delicate, nature-inspired bowls capture the imprint of a leaf, making them perfect vessels for offerings, herbs, or sacred objects on your altar. The process is simple yet deeply intentional, allowing you to work with both earth and spirit.
How to make it:
Roll out the clay: Use air-dry clay or polymer clay and roll it to about ¼ inch thickness.
Press a leaf – Place a real leaf (vein-side down) onto the clay and gently press to imprint its details.
Cut it out: Use a knife or clay tool to carefully trim around the leaf’s shape.
Shape the bowl: Place the clay leaf into a small bowl or dish to create a curved form.
Dry: If using air-dry clay, leave it for 24-48 hours; if using polymer clay, bake according to the instructions.
Peel & Paint – Once hardened, carefully remove the bowl, peel off the leaf, and paint it with metallics, earthy tones, or soft washes of colour.
These organic, nature-moulded bowls make beautiful vessels for offerings, holding dried herbs, crystals, or water on your altar as a sacred gift to Spirit.

15. Balancing branch mobile
Create a hanging mobile using a fallen branch as the foundation, to symbolise the perfect equilibrium of the Spring Equinox.
Tie natural elements like feathers (air), stones (earth), shells (water), and small bells (fire) to different lengths of string, ensuring that each side of your mobile remains balanced (this is a really fun craft to do with children).
You can also add symbols of light and dark – like sun and moon charms or white and black ribbons – to honour the duality of the season.
When complete, hang your branch mobile near your altar or over your mantlepiece, to remind you to maintain harmony between action and rest, growth and reflection.
16. Herbal bath tea bags
Herbal baths are soooo soothing. What’s not so great is the residue of soggy herbs left in your tub once the water has drained! That’s why using tea bag is a must when it comes to ritual bathing with any kind of added ingredients.
This month, create bath tea bags filled with uplifting calendula, rose, and lemon balm (or any other herbs or dried flowers that tug at your intuition).
Let them steep in your bath like a potion, infusing the water with their healing energy, before you bathe beneath the full moon to cleanse away stagnation and invite new beginnings…
You can buy reusable drawstring cloth bags, or for even more ease, get hold of biodegradable bags you can compost post-bath:

17. New intention spell jar
Witches know the new Year doesn’t really get going until the green shoots begin to appear, making March a great time to set your intentions for the year.
Combine corresponding herbs, crystals and other ingredients, with a written intention into a spell jar, and keep it on your altar for the moth.

Don’t forget to add a written intention as an affirming statement, such as “New opportunities flow effortlessly to me, and I approach each day with confidence, joy, and purpose,” and place it in the jar.
When complete, seal your spell jar using the melted wax from a candle, or a small block of sealing wax melted in a spoon over a candle, poured onto the top of the jar:

18. Fabric scrap garland
Cut fabric scraps or ribbons in earthy, pastel, or floral tones and tie them to a length of twine to make a garland. This can be used to decorate your space for spring, as a gentle nod to renewal and fresh energy.
This is great for using up old pieces of fabric, old clothes, or even pillowcases and curtains that are past their best.
19. Witch’s ladder
Create a witch’s ladder by knotting feathers onto a length of yarn or twine. Make each knot represent an intention for the season, the higher you go, the further your intention will take flight!
Hang your witch’s ladder in your home or keep it on your altar to work its magic for the whole month.

20. Nature mandala
Crafting a nature mandala is a truly earth-honouring way to connect with the energy of the season. You can make yours inside or out, but I prefer to make mine outside as a offering to the land.
Go out into nature and gather leaves, stones, flowers, and twigs.
Begin with a central focal point, then arrange your items in a circular, symmetrical pattern to reflect harmony and renewal. Let intuition guide your design, and have fun with it!
Once complete, sit in reflection and gratitude for a moment, appreciating the natural beauty surrounding you before returning the materials to the earth.
As the earth stirs and life begins to bloom, these crafts invite you to embrace the season’s energy with your hands and heart.
Whether you’re shaping clay, infusing oils, or weaving nature into your creations, each piece becomes a ritual of renewal – a way to honour growth, change, and the quiet magic of spring.
Let yourself create with intention, and trust that, just like the world around you, you are blossoming too.
Blessed be
