March Witchcraft: 20 Magickal Tasks, Tips, Crafts & Spells for the Spring Witch

March is a month of transformation, where the icy grip of winter slowly gives way to the budding promise of spring (hurray!)

The energy of renewal is palpable, carried by the restless winds and the lengthening days. For witches, this is a time of awakening – a period to shake off the dormancy of winter and step into the fertile, blossoming magick of the season.

With the Spring Equinox (Ostara) at its heart, March is a really potent time for growth and manifestation, whilst still keeping balance at our core.

From planting seeds – both literal and metaphorical, greeting the return of the Sun, or working with the shifting elements, this month is brimming with opportunities to deepen your craft.

In this guide, you’ll find 20 magickal tasks to align your spirit with the rhythm of the earth.

As ever, there’s no need to do everything! Have a read, and try what calls to you. The most important thing is to step into the season with intention, and let the momentum of March carry you forward…

1. Celebrate the Spring Equinox (Ostara)

This HAD to be number 1! Arriving on the 20th of March, Ostara marks the balance of light and dark, a moment of equilibrium before the days grow longer.

This is a powerful time for renewal, fertility, and growth. Decorate your altar with eggs, fresh flowers, and symbols of balance. Celebrate with a feast, light candles to welcome the returning sun, and set intentions for the season ahead.

2. Plant seeds with intention

As the earth awakens, so does your ability to manifest with ease!

Hold seeds in your hands, whisper your desires into them, and feel their dormant energy waiting to burst forth. Bury them in the soil with reverence, knowing that as they grow, so too will your goals and dreams.

Water them with moon-charged water for an extra magickal boost.

3. Work with March’s flowers

Daffodils, violets, and primroses bloom with the energy of new beginnings at this time of year.

Use them in spells for renewal, love, growth and manifestation.

Place fresh flowers on your altar, create floral-infused oils, or dry petals for future use in charm bags and incense blends. Their vibrant energy helps awaken the spirit and refresh the soul.

Violet infused oil is one of my favourites to make – here are some simple instructions:

What you’ll need:

  • Fresh violet flowers
  • A light carrier oil (sweet almond, jojoba, or olive oil)
  • A small glass jar with a lid
  • A strainer or cheesecloth

Violet oil instructions:

Gather & cleanse: Gather your violet flowers, and ensure they are free of dirt and moisture

Fill the jar: Place the flowers into the jar, filling to the top. Pour the carrier oil over them, fully submerging the petals.

Let it steep: Seal the jar and place it in a warm, dark spot for 4–6 weeks, shaking gently every few days.

Strain & store: Once infused, strain out the petals and transfer the oil to a clean bottle. Store in a cool, dark place and use as needed.

This gentle, heart-opening oil can be used for anointing candles, in self-care rituals, or as a soothing skin remedy.

    4. Perform a house cleansing ritual

Before stepping fully into spring, release winter’s stagnant energy from your home.

Sweep your floors with a witch’s broom, burn cleansing herbs like rosemary or juniper, and ring witch bells to clear heavy vibrations. Visualize old energies dissolving as fresh, vital energy fills your space, making room for new possibilities.

    5. Connect with the rain

March showers bring more than flowers – they cleanse the spirit and carry messages from the sky (YES!)

Stand outside and let raindrops wash over you, or collect rainwater in a jar to use in spells for purification and renewal.

Charge it under the full moon for an extra layer of lunar magick.

    6. Celebrate the Full Worm Moon

March’s full moon is often known as the Worm Moon, and it signals the earth’s awakening as the soil softens and life stirs beneath the surface. It carries powerful energy of renewal, making this a potent time for spells focused on growth, cleansing, and manifesting new beginnings.

Under the Worm Moon’s glow, perform grounding rituals by placing your hands on the earth, connecting with its stirring energy. Charge seeds, crystals, or water to infuse them with the moon’s fertile power.

Write down what you wish to grow, and what old skins you are ready to release, and plant the paper in the soil to let your intentions take root.

    7. Perform a wind spell

March winds are wild and untamed, carrying the whispers of fate.

Step outside, breathe in the charged air, and release your intentions into the breeze. Write wishes on bay leaves and let the wind carry them away, or scatter herbs into the air as an offering to the spirits.

    8. Work with fertility and abundance magick

Spring bursts with the energy of fertility and creation – both literal and metaphorical.

But fertility magic needn’t only be about making babies! Focus on learning and honing your spells for abundance, as during March, the quickening of nature will give your magickal workings an extra boost.

Place honey and pollen on your altar to attract sweetness, or work specifically with crystals like citrine and green aventurine, charging them in the sun to amplify wealth and success.

    9. Try oomancy (egg divination)

Oomancy is the little-known art of divination using eggs.

It’s a little like reading tea leaves, and relies on the intuitive and interpretive skills of the practitioner.

Set a clear intention, then crack an egg, separating the yolk and the white, and then drop the white into hot water. The shapes formed in the water can then be “read” to foretell the future and receive guidance to a question.

    10. Make a herbal Spring elixir

Look for emerging edible plants like dandelions, nettles, goosegrass or chickweed. These first shoots can be powerfully renewing, both physically and spiritually.

I love to make an elixir with the first goosegrass I find. Simply place a handful of sprigs in a pot of hot water and allow to brew for a few hours (leaving for this long will allow the minerals to steep and release into the water). When cooled, strain and drink.

Always forage respectfully and with gratitude… and be sure you know what you are harvesting.

    11. Charge your crystals in the equinox sun

With the growing daylight, now is the time to let your crystals bathe in the sun’s strengthening energy. Place them outside during the equinox to absorb the balance of light and dark.

Use this energy to bring harmony to your spellwork and personal power.

    12. Make a floral bath infusion

Immerse yourself in the magick of spring with a floral bath infusion.

Floral baths can be SO beautiful, but also pretty messy once the initial Instagram aesthetic has worn off! So instead of steeping your petals straight into the tub, create floral bath tea, filling them with your favourite dried flowers.

…  Then simply hang around the tap as you fill your bath with warm water.

As you soak, envision old energies washing away. Add essential oils like lavender or rose for extra enchantment, turning your self-care ritual into an act of spellwork.

Suggested herbs and their magical properties:

    13. Make a willow wand

Willow is sacred to the moon, water, and the unseen realms, making it a powerful wand material.

March is likely the last time you can prune willow, before it comes into leaf. So with respect and gratitude, harvest a stem with the intention of wand-making.

Wrap it in silver thread, attach charms or crystals, and dedicate it under the light of the full moon.

Use it to direct energy, open portals between worlds, and strengthen your connection to the fae and spirits of the land.

    14. Leave offerings for nature spirits

Spring awakens not only plants but the spirits that dwell within them. Leave offerings of honey, fresh milk, or seeds in a quiet place as a gesture of gratitude.

Speak words of appreciation, and you may find the land spirits more willing to assist in your workings.

    15. Refresh your altar for Spring

Clear away winter’s relics and invite the energy of renewal into your sacred space.

Add symbols of growth – green candles, fresh flowers, eggs, or representations of the sun.

Anoint your altar with spring water or floral oils to welcome the fresh season. Many materials you can find or forage, for other ideas, check out:

    16. Honour a Goddess of Spring

Call upon deities who embody the rebirth of the land, such as Persephone, Ostara, or Eostre.

Light candles in their honour, meditate on their myths, or leave offerings of fresh flowers and fruits. Invite their wisdom into your practice as you step into the season of renewal.

    17. Call in a new oracle deck

Spring is a time of fresh perspectives, making it the perfect season to welcome a new oracle deck into your practice.

If you feel drawn to a particular deck, consider it a sign that its wisdom is meant for you.

Cleanse it with moonlight, smoke, or crystals, and introduce yourself to its energy by pulling a daily card. Let this deck become a guide for the season ahead, offering insights and messages as you step into the magick of renewal.

Here are some of my favourites:

    18. Write a manifestation letter

Put your dreams for the year into words, writing with focused intention and passion.

Be specific, as if your desires are already reality. Seal the letter with wax, bury it in the earth to let it grow, or burn it in candle flame to send your wish into the outer fields of potential.

    19. Make sun water

As the days grow longer and the sun gains strength, harness its vibrant energy by creating sunwater.

Fill a jar with fresh water and place it in direct sunlight, allowing it to absorb the warmth, vitality, and power of the sun. Add edible herbs and crystals that are safe in water.

Use this energized water in spells for confidence, joy, motivation, and abundance. You can also anoint candles, add it to ritual baths, or drink it with intention to infuse yourself with solar magick.

    20. Dance and move your body

Awaken your body and spirit by moving your body in sync with the rising energy of the season. Dance barefoot on the earth, spin beneath the open sky, or simply sway with the wind.

Try somatic experiencing to see what your body has to tell you. Movement is magick – let it guide you and open you up to new experiences.

March brings a vibrant, renewing energy that encourages growth and transformation.

By embracing practices that flow with these energies, you can cleanse old energy, set meaningful intentions, and gain momentum as the year of the wheel turns.

Whether you’re working with candles to welcome the lengthening days, honouring Ostara at the equinox, or planting seeds for future harvests, I hope that the activities you choose help to deepen your craft, weaving even more magic into your life.
