Hello March!
Considering February is the shortest month, didn’t it seem to go on forever?! (And I love dropping deeply into every month and season… but sometimes, a change is needed!)
There’s something undeniably alive about March.
The third month of the calendar year tends to arrive on a restless wind, eager to grow, to move, to take action. The stillness of winter finally loosens its grip, and Mother Earth feels as though she’s stretching after a long sleep.
The days are noticeably brighter (hurray!)
The air feels charged in a new way.
Tender green shoots dare to rise.
After February’s gentle kindling, March invites us to ignite.
For witches, March is a month of awakening.
With the Spring Equinox (Ostara) lighting the way, this is a season of re-balance, growth, fertility, and fresh momentum. And March’s witchcraft correspondences remind us of a powerful truth: All those seeds you have sown, quietly germinating beneath the surface, are now ready to rise.
Energy and Symbolism of March
March’s energy is centred on balance, renewal, action, and expansion.
Named for Mars, the Roman god of vitality and forward motion, March carries a bold, initiating force. But this isn’t chaotic energy, It’s purposeful growth.
The Spring Equinox marks an incredibly potent moment of equal light and dark, reminding us that harmony is found not in extremes, but in integration.
Magical themes for March include:
-
Spring Equinox (Ostara) rituals
-

-

-

The soil is warming, light is becoming stronger, and the wheel is turning in ways we can really see and feel.

-
Decorate your altar with fresh flowers, like daffodils or violets, to honour renewal.

Perform a seed-planting ritual – physically plant seeds while setting intentions for personal goals.

-
Align your moon rituals with the Worm Moon by focusing on emergence, productivity, and preparation.

Add seasonal colours – green, yellow, pink, or soft blue – to candles, clothing, or spellwork to enhance vitality.
Remember, aligning with the season doesn’t mean overwhelming yourself with action! It means moving when the energy supports you.
Many witches tell me the hardest part of seasonal magick is knowing what to focus on (before it’s too late!)
That’s why I created Seasonal Spellcraft, so your practice can unfold naturally, one month at a time.
The Worm Moon & Casting Lunar Magick
March’s Worm Moon signals the thawing of the earth and the return of life beneath the soil. It represents emergence, preparation, and quiet industry.
Under its glow, you may feel motivated, restless, or inspired to begin something new.
This moon is a powerful time for growth magic, manifestation work, and courage spells.
Worm Moon Ritual Ideas:
-
Write down one goal you’re ready to nurture this spring and bury it in soil as a symbolic planting.
-
Light a green or yellow candle for prosperity, growth, or confidence.
-
Create a small talisman using clover, mint, and clear quartz for luck and forward motion.
-
Cleanse your space with fresh herbs like thyme or lemongrass to welcome new energy.
-
Spend time outdoors beneath the moon, consciously noticing signs of life returning around you.
As you work beneath this moon, imagine yourself as both seed and gardener – emerging, and tending your own becoming.
