While the cold still lingers, the days are growing longer, and the promise of new life stirs temptingly in the earth.
For witches, this is a time to honour both the quiet wisdom of late winter and the budding potential of spring. With the celebration of Imbolc and the arrival of early blooms of bulbs and flowers, February is perfect for nurturing intentions, connecting with nature, and preparing for the year ahead.
Whether you follow the Wheel of the Year closely or are simply looking for inspiration, these 20 witchy activities, tasks and rituals will help you make the absolute most of February’s unique magic!
1. Celebrate Imbolc
Imbolc, celebrated on February 1st (occasionally on Feb 2nd), marks the halfway point between Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox.
There are SO many ways to honour this sabbat, from simply lighting candles and offering prayers to Brigid, to baking elaborate cakes and feasting with milk and honey!
Imbolc also offers time to go within and reflect on themes like purification and renewal, and consider how you can manifest these throughout the month.

2. Refresh and cleanse your altar
Giving your altar a seasonal makeover is about so much MORE than just looks. Your altar is the focal point of your magickal work, so its energy dictates much of what you’re able to create.
Give your altar a fresh burst of new life with symbols of early spring, such as candles, seeds, or budding flowers. Incorporate fresh colours like yellows, bright greens, and oranges .
Remember to awaken your altar with rattles or bells, and consider calling in a Spring deity to oversee and infuse it with the energy of growth and rebirth.
3. Perform a fire ritual
Kicking off with the first of the 4 Celtic fire Festivals, February is a great time to connect with the transformative power of fire.
Invite your coven over for a ritual bondire, or keep it much simpler with a candle ritual.
Write down something you wish to release and throw it to the flames (burning it safely, of course!) Or light a yellow or orange candle to ignite your creativity for the Spring season
4. Devote yourself to Brigid
Brigid is the Celtic goddess of poetry, healing, and smithcraft, and is a central figure during Imbolc. She is one of my favourite deities, and she appears as a powerful, transformative presence as winter gives way to Spring.
Honour her with offerings of milk, poetry readings, or creating something with your hands, such as a craft or artwork.

5. Cast seed spells
Seeds not only symbolize growth and transformation, they are physically bursting with potential too! This makes them an ideal tool for intention-setting.
Hold seeds in the palm of your hand, breathe deeply, and visualize your goal, whether it’s peace, abundance, or healing, or something more specific. Infuse the seeds with your personal energy by imagining a golden thread connecting them to your heart or solar plexus.
Creating this energetic bond now will strengthen their connection to you, especially if you’ll later use the plants for magical or medicinal purposes. It’s believed by some that plants will grow attuned to the conditions of your body, and what you most need**.
Once charged, plant the seeds or keep them on your altar until the right time to plant them.
** Some practitioners swear by placing seeds in the mouth prior to planting, further fusing the connection.
6. Celebrate the Full Snow Moon
February’s full moon, often called the Snow Moon, is a potent time for spiritual cleansing and renewal. Take this time to meditate, perform a cleansing ritual, or simply connect with the quiet beauty of the season under the moonlight
7. Perform a love spell for Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to channel the energy of love, whether it’s for romantic relationships, friendships, or self-love.
Maybe you don’t buy into the commercialism of this modern celebration? Remember how powerful the collective consciousness is! Performing a love spell on or around this day aligns with the collective focus on affection and connection, so your magick will undoubtedly be amplified.

8. Perform a self love ritual
Not into romance? Then turn your attention to self-love!
Create a calming space with a pink candle, rose quartz, and soothing scents like lavender or rose geranium. Write a list of 10 things you love about yourself and read them aloud. Repeat, as you slow down and feel the impact of your words washing over you.
You could incorporate a ritual bath, or smooth your skin with a delicious body oil.
Conclude by deeply thanking yourself for this moment of self-nurturing, and keep a token from the ritual on your altar, as a reminder of your commitment to self-love for the rest of the month.
9. Practice weather divination
Weather divination is an ancient art (and takes a lifetime of practice) but it can be a fun way to connect with nature’s rhythms and gain insight and direction for the future.
Take the time to notice and observe natural patterns in the atmosphere, and have a go at interpreting any messages they bring your way. Here are some common signs to look our for and their potential meanings (remember, though, to always trust your own intuitive hunches about meanings)
- Wispy, high cloud formations (cirrus): Indicate clarity and a lightness of energy, good for setting intentions.
- Dark, heavy clouds (cumulonimbus): Suggest tension, obstacles, or the need for preparation.
- Gentle breezes from the east: New beginnings or messages may be on their way.
- Strong winds from the west: Time to release old energies or prepare for change.
- A light drizzle of rain: Emotional cleansing or a gentle renewal process is occurring.
- Sudden, heavy rain: A significant release of pent-up emotions or energy may be needed.
- Birds flying low: Signals approaching storms or changes in energy.
- Unusual animal activity: May indicate heightened spiritual energy or a message from nature spirits.
- Sudden warmth in the cold season: A boost of vitality or unexpected good fortune may be coming.
- Sharp cold spells: A reminder to pause, reflect, and conserve energy.
- Glistening, bright snow: Represents purity, spiritual clarity, and fresh starts.
- Heavy, dense snow: Indicates the need for patience and inner reflection.
- Moon and Stars
- A halo around the moon: Amplified intuition and a time for heightened spiritual work.
- Clear, bright stars: A good omen for success and clarity in your endeavors.
Record your observations in your grimoire or journal, and compare them to how events unfold. Over time, you’ll build a personal understanding of how nature’s signs align with your magical practice.
10. Start planning your magical garden
Before the weeds begin to take root, take a good look at your patch and make some decisions for the growing season.
Do you want to plant a magickal herb garden this year? Or a practical vegetable patch? February is a great time to research and map out what you’ll plant when Spring arrives. And it’s not too soon to get some earlies in under glass.
11. Make milk-based offerings
Honour the fertility of the season with offerings of milk, cream, or cheese to deities, spirits and ancestors. These represent nourishment, and will help provide the nurturing spiritual energy of early spring.
12. Spring clean and bless your home
Imbolc is traditionally a time for deep cleaning and purifying the home, but any time in February will do!
Ritualise your cleaning routine, by putting on your favourite tunes, amping up the energy and inviting the Spirits to help you out!
Sweep, cleanse and dust. Declutter and move out any unwanted object, releasing stagnant energy at the same time.
As you work, spread blessings around your home. Sprinkle and sweep salt, wash with moon water, and finish with essential oils like rosemary and thyme, to purify and refresh.
13. Discover ancestral wisdom
Connecting with ancestral wisdom grounds and inspires your witchcraft practice.
February offers a quiet, still time to delve into books, research and ideas, before the momentum of the year really begins. Try:
- Reflecting through journaling or meditation: Contemplate the lessons, values, or traditions passed down to you (even unconsciously) and how they guide your current path. Trust the gnosis you hold, and write what feels true.
- Asking relatives to share stories: Speak with older family members to learn about their experiences, advice, and family traditions. You maybe surprised what you discover!
- Reading books and exploring cultural resources: Research books, websites or resources about your heritage to uncover ancestral practices and incorporate them into your craft.
14. Do some shadow work
February’s introspective energy is ideal for exploring your inner self, and the repressed parts lingering in the shadows.
Shadow work is an essential part of any witchcraft practice. A HUGE proportion of what we create comes straight from the unconscious, so if you don’t know what’s there, you’re literally working in the dark.
15. Decorate your home with spring flowers
Bring the energy of renewal indoors with a bouquet of gorgeous flowers like snowdrops, crocuses, or daffodils.
These blooms symbolize the arrival of Spring and invite freshness into your space.
16. Make an early Spring elixir
Look for emerging edible plants like dandelions, nettles, goosegrass or chickweed. These first shoots can be powerfully renewing, both physically and spiritually.
I love to make an elixir with the first goosegrass I find. Simply place a handful of sprigs in a pot of hot water and allow to brew for a few hours (leaving for this long will allow the minerals to steep and release into the water). When cooled, strain and drink.
Always forage respectfully and with gratitude… and be sure you know what you are harvesting.
17. Craft a spell jar for renewal
The month of February is a great time for renewal magick. This means casting magickal spells, and rituals, and creating charms to help encourage and support the energy of rebirth and change.
Combine ingredients like seeds, fresh soil, citrine, and lavender into a jar. Charge it with your intentions for growth, renewal, and new beginnings, and place it on your altar to inspire fresh energy.
Here are some elements to include:
Small glass spell jar: to contain your ingredients and hold your intention.
- 30ml glass jars
- 20ml glass jars with screw eyes (great for hanging charms)
Crystals: to hold and amplify the resonance of your intentions
- Clear quartz chips
- Green aventurine chips (to bring luck, renewal, and vitality)
- Amethyst chips (to encourage clarity and spiritual growth
Rosemary: Cleansing and renewal of energy.
Basil: Promotes prosperity and fresh starts.
Mint: Stimulates renewal and mental clarity.
Thyme: Encourages courage and clearing past limitations.
Bay Leaves: Used for wish-making and manifesting new intentions.
Cinnamon stick or powder: Adds energy and warmth, whilst boosting intentions.
Dandelion Petals: Representing resilience and hope.
Calendula: For healing and vitality

Fresh Soil: Represents fertile ground for growth.

Mix and match these ingredients based on your intentions, intuition, and what you have available. As you assemble your spell jar, visualize each element contributing its unique energy, combining to amplify the power of the spell.
Place your spell jar on your altar, or in another prominent place in your home or work space.
18. Seek balance
Balance is essential for a harmonious life, and the late winter season offers a perfect opportunity to realign your energy. Depending on your beliefs and focus, think about what balance means to you, and where it may be lacking.
You could work with the four elements (earth, air, fire and water) and identify where you may need more or less of one particular energetic.
Or maybe the concept of duality feels strong? Spend time exploring the spectrum of light and dark feminine energies, and see where you are underexpressing any parts of yourself.

Use the waxing and waning phases of the Moon as your guide, and set an intention to reach a new level of balance in your life by the end of the month.
19. Cleanse your divination tools
As the deepest, darkest depths of winter have passed, refresh your tarot cards, pendulums, runes, or scrying mirror by cleansing them with smoke, moonlight, or salt.
20. Perform a gratitude ritual
IMO it’s a good idea to perform a gratitude ritual at least once per month/ moon cycle.
Taking time to reflect on, and give thanks for the blessings in your life is a profound way to shift your frequency and stay within the creative, positive, life-affirming current of life.
Gratitude rituals can be so simple – light a candle and write down a list of things you’re grateful for, then keep the list in your grimoire. Or alternatively, burn it as an offering to the Goddess.
Balance is an ever-evolving dance, especially as the seasons shift from winter to spring.
By exploring a few unconventional practices, rituals and spells to realign your energy, you open yourself to deeper harmony with the natural and spiritual worlds.
I hope these practices remind you that balance isn’t about perfection – it’s about honouring the cycles within and around us, and taking the lead from Mother Nature.
Wishing you a blessed February.
