What does it mean when the Transiting Moon is in Libra?

Will a transiting Libra Moon bring balance + bounty into your life?!

A little of this… not too much of that..? Perched high in the heavens, Libra symbolizes the scales. So could tapping into a Libra Moon transit be the key to gaining your balance?

… Let’s find out.

The archetypal zodiac sign of Libra has deep roots

Ancient Egyptians revered Maat – as the Goddess who brought law and order to chaos, and judged the worthiness of the dead when they reached the underworld. Using a set of golden scales, and a white ostrich feather as her counterweight, she would weigh the heart of the deceased (where the soul was housed). If lighter than her feather, you were through to the afterlife!. If heavier, well, your fate was gruesome….

In Sanskrit, Libra was known as “Tula”

Zibanitu in Babylona.

Tarazuk in Persia.

The Romans replaced Libra with their God of weights and measures: Vulcan. His wife, Venus became her planetary ruler.

Though known by different names, the balancing, diplomatic, discerning energy of Libra threads its way throughout our many mythologies. We need to believe in this great balancing force. We need to believe that we’re not alone, and there’s a grand design that keeps life in check. That that the pendulum will swing back from any extreme it reaches.

Every Lunar cycle, the Moon transits the zodiac sign of Libra for a few days

During these libran lunar days (as few as 1, as many as 4) the Moon reflects this energy down onto our planet.

It’s usually felt as a gentle transit – light, breezy, awash with kindness and co-operation.

Here, the overarching pull of the Moon’s influence is soft, fair-minded and diplomatic. Under this astrology, we want people to get along.

The Ancient Greeks called Libra “Zugos”, meaning yoke. Libra’s symbol looks a lot like the kind of yoke put over the neck of an ox in those times – a tool of joining together, attachment, or connection.

Peace-loving Libra sees our similarities and what brings us together, not what holds us apart

Conflict averse, it’s almost as though this Moon activates a kind of internal equilibrium that we’re too afraid to tip out of balance. For this reason, beware of that inner people pleaser coming out to play at the first sign of friction in your relationships…

Another manifestation of these Libra Moon vibes is that it feels too uncomfortable to watch relationships under strain – any relationships, not just your own. So you may find yourself taking on the role of the mediator with surprising ease! Soothing drama and finding win-wins to keep everybody happy is often the name of the Libra Moon game.

Yet Libra Moon transits aren’t passive, standing-on-the-sidelines kind of Moons…

Libra is cardinal in modality, meaning it needs to take action, get involved, and initiate. So it wants things to happen, but doesn’t want anyone to get upset… can you see a paradox here?

For this reason, it’s important under this lunar sign not to decide to DO something just because it’s the path of least resistance. As hard as it may feel to rock the boat, waves may not be the worst thing in the world…

Libra always offers an artistic stroke

Ruled by beautifying Venus, our eyes tend to seek out the most tasteful, well-designed, and symmetrical sides of life. Trips to museums, galleries, or architectural hotspots will likely go down well under a Libra Moon – here, beauty’s what the soul seeks. So it comes as no surprise that those born with this natal Moon are generally artistic, great at design, and aesthetic powerhouses.

Monthly, we all get to tap into this energy, making this an ideal lunar transit for a little re-decoration, interior planning, or a good old-fashioned make-over.

Self-indulgence is no bad thing under this astrology – this Moon gives the permission to follow what feels, and more to the point – looks good.

The Libra Moon Body

If you’re physically affected by la Luna’s transit through the sign of Libra, then you’ll likely feel it in your lower back and kidneys. This is the area of the body that this zodiac sign rules, and we all know the Moon is our closest celestial ally, it follows that she activates the body.

Any chronic back or kidney conditions could flare. So drink plenty of water, include kidney-supporting herbs (Dandelion, marshmallow root, nettles, parsley, and Juniper for example (no, gin does not count!) And be sure to avoid any heavy lifting if back issues are your thing…

The Libra Moon shadow

Every Moon has her shadow.

Shadows are rejected, hidden, suppressed, distorted, misunderstood, (or all of those!) aspects of self. These rise to the surface, often unconsciously in response to triggers or under emotional strain.

Under a Libra Moon, the shadow can look like:

  • Superficiality
  • Perfectionism + holding unrealistically high standards
  • Narcissism
  • Self-aggrandisement
  • Meanness
  • Avoiding responsibility

But do the daily Moon transits really affect life here on Earth?!

Think about how much of a pull the Moon has on the Earth’s oceans. How much she affects the daily, monthly and seasonal tides.

Now consider that humans are over 80% water! It’s a no-brainer that our inner tides are also affected by the Moon. But it does deeper than this…

In ancient lore, our Moon is the Mistress of the emotional realms of life.

Her daily movements through the sky affect us on many layers of our being, especially the emotional ones…

And on top of that, most astrologers know (even if most ordinary folks don’t – apart from you!) that your natal Moon sign is much more revealing than the natal Sun!

This means that the zodiac sign the Moon was in when you were born, has more of an effect on who you truly are, than the zodiac sign the Sun was in!

But how often do YOU consider your natal Moon?!

The reason for this is that for most folks, this lunar side is a side that you likely keep hidden. (Well, the Moon does that too…😉 )

You’ll usually experience children expressing their natal Moon, more openly than their natal Sun. And when you get to know (grown-up) people more closely, they may start to show this lunar side too…

Your natal Moon often reflects how you were mothered

…and how this has gone on to shape who you are (and how you, in turn, mother). When you really look into this, it’s uncanny.

So, the Moon represents your emotions, sensitivities, instincts, and maternal stories

She informs your intuitive reactions and our subconscious leanings.

AND… an ancient Goddess of the feminine mysteries, the Moon also influences the body. (For as we all know… a women’s magic lies in her embodied self).

As the Moon circles the Earth, the tides within our own bodies tend to “rise” and “fall”. This happens energetically, but it reverberates down into the physical pretty quickly. So under a certain lunar transit, parts of you may feel lifted, or heavy, soothed or enflamed, depending on how her energies land in your own miraculous physicality.

Each month, as the Moon orbits planet Earth, she spends between 1 and 4 days at a time transiting a single zodiac sign

Some people are super-tuned into her celestial shifts, and some people hardly feel her influence at all… It depends on YOU, your make-up, your attention, and on SO many internal and external factors.

But as a collective, the Moon sign has a definite, though sometimes subtle overriding effect on the energetic “weather” of each day. This means that if you know what today’s Moon sign is, you have a better chance of navigating her emotional waves…
