Even witches need rest.
No… scrap that. Especially witches need rest!
Rest and self-care (aka caring for yourself) isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessary and natural part of life, where you are tending to your mind, body, and spirit so your magick flows freely.
A Self-Care Sunday is the perfect chance to recharge, reconnect with your craft, and step into the new week with grounded energy.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a well-practised witch, or just beginning your path, these practices will help you weave rest and ritual together.
Along the way, I’ll also share some favourite tools and products that can enhance your rituals if you’d like to try them. Links are affiliate, meaning we will earn a few pennies if you click and buy, at no extra cost to you.
1. Morning Grounding Ritual
Start your Sunday with stillness.
If you’re someone who usually rushes to get up and go to work or school (or the school run) in the morning, give yourself a little more grace on a Sunday.
Light a candle or a stick of incense, hold a grounding crystal like hematite (THIS hematite point is perfect) or a piece of raw smoky quartz, and spend a few minutes in quiet meditation.
Clear your mind with gentleness, and bring your focus to your heart, solar plexus or womb space.
If you like, imagine roots growing from your body into the earth, anchoring you deeply.
This simple ritual needn’t take more than 10 minutes, but it will do wonders for clearing away scattered energy, and centring you for the day ahead.
2. Ritual Bath
There’s nothing like a ritual bath to cleanse your aura and soothe your spirit.
Add herbs like lavender, rosemary, or chamomile, a few drops of essential oils, or even a splash of moon water to running water.
As you soak, visualise any tension dissolving and being carried away by the water.
Tip: Use biodegradable bath tea bags so your herbal blend doesn’t turn into a soggy mess when you pull the plug!

3. Altar Refresh & Home Cleanse
Your sacred spaces deserve care, too!
Spend some time dusting your altar, cleansing your tools, and refreshing offerings. Be intentional and slow – really allow yourself the time to tune into what is needed, rather than just going through the motions.
If your home feels heavy, you may like to perform a cleansing: burn herbs like cedar, juniper or mugwort (avoid any non-native or endangered herbs like sage or Palo Santo).
Or you could experiment with sound cleansing using bells or a singing bowl.
Creating a fresh and energetically clear space makes your whole home feel like a sanctuary, so if you have been putting this off, make it part of your Sunday self-care – it will make SUCH a difference to your week!

4. Nourish with Kitchen Witchery
Self-care isn’t only about baths and candles, it’s also infused into the way you feed, fuel and sustain yourself daily.
Taking time on a Sunday to nourish your body is a potent act in itself.
Brew a pot of herbal tea with intention – use organic herbs like chamomile and lavender, or hibiscus and rose – and sip it slowly as you move through your kitchen rituals.
I adore Pukka tea – and this ‘Relax’ Selection Box is to die for! (it also makes a glorious gift for a sister in need of self care!)
If you have a little more time, consider preparing a healing stock or broth for the week ahead. Stir clockwise to invite positive energy in, and whisper blessings into the pot.
You might also choose to bake bread, muffins, or a favourite treat that will carry you through the week with comfort and care.
Meal planning can also become ritual.
Align your menus with the moon’s cycle, choosing lighter, cleansing foods during the waning moon, and heartier, grounding meals as the moon waxes.
Or, if you track your own cycle, plan meals that support your body’s shifting needs and energies.
Before you begin, light a small candle, call in your kitchen guardian and offer a pinch of salt. Then be sure to set aside the first spoonful of your dish as a gesture of gratitude.

5. Divination & Reflection
Self-care Sunday is the perfect time to pull out your tarot or oracle deck and ask:
- What do I need to know for the coming week?
- How should I best approach this week?
- What do I need to pay particular attention to right now?
Journaling on your card combinations, unexpected cards, or intuitive nudges can also bring clarity, so allow yourself the extra time to dive a little deeper than you may on other, busier days.

6. Body Love & Movement
Your body is the vessel through which your magick flows, so treat it with the reverence it deserves!
Stretch, do some gentle yoga, or put on music and dance freely. Or try a somatic movement practice – allow your body to move as she needs to. Really tune in and make space for whatever expressions need to emerge through your physical form.
Moving with intention like this helps release stuck energy and reconnects you with your inner strength and power.
Don’t think of it as exercise, think of it as ritual movement.

7. Set Your Weekly Intentions
Intention is the seed of all magick.
Every spell, every ritual, and every action you take in ordinary reality all begin with a clear desire and a focused will. Taking time on Sunday to set your intentions is like drawing a map for the week ahead – it tells LIFE (and yourself) where you want your energy to flow.
This doesn’t have to be elaborate. You can simply light a candle, take a few breaths, and write down three words that capture how you want the week to feel (such a ease, creativity, and abundance).
Or perhaps you craft a short mantra or affirmation and speak it aloud while holding a crystal or charm you’ll keep with you.
Some witches like to write their intentions on slips of paper and tuck them under a candle, in a jar, or beneath a crystal grid. Whilst others prefer to weave them into a journal entry, or to create a small sigil representing their weekly focus. However you do it, the key is to set them with heart, clarity, and belief.
Try to think of your Sunday intention-setting as a weekly ritual reset.
Instead of rushing headlong into Monday, you’re giving yourself the gift of stepping into the week grounded, clear, and aligned. The energy you cultivate on Sunday lingers – it will shape your choices, influence your mindset, and help you stay connected to your deeper purpose even when life gets busy.
Personally, I love using a specific intention journal. Here are my choices:
Or for something more “intentional” (!), these specific intention-setting journals are a really great tool to focus your mind:
It’s SO important to understand that self-care isn’t selfish. It’s sacred.
By dedicating even a few hours on Sunday to nurturing your mind, body, and spirit, you’re not only strengthening your magick, but you’re honouring yourself as the witch (and incredible human!) that you are.
If you can, let your Self-Care Sunday become a weekly ritual of rest, renewal, and empowerment.
And if you’re looking to deepen your practice, the tools and resources shared here can help you create a Self-Care Sunday that feels both restorative and magickal.
Blessed be.
