When the Dark Moon is approaching and we begin to retreat from the bustle and activity of the external world, it is the time when our powers of intuition can rise.

For women, the same is true during their bleeding times, or “moon times”, and these two things may coincide, they may dance around each other for months, or they may never meet. Whatever the pattern is for you, it is as it’s meant to be.

Intuition is the capacity to know and recognize true guidance as it is offered to us. It is sometimes described as a deep inner feeling or sense of knowing, and something we need to learn to tap into. It’s a ‘tiny voice’ so often drowned out by the cacophony of thoughts and images usually racing through our minds, or it is a physical feeling in our bodies, which rises to let us know whether we should trust or distrust a situation we find ourselves in.

Well, that is true, and we can receive enormous amounts from tuning into these subtle shifts in our own beings. But when you activate your intuition, the results aren’t only confined to your internal, personal and non-tangible sphere.

The external world that we each inhabit is a reflection of our own internal world – our thoughts, feelings, and our deep, subconscious desires and fears too. Our powers of intuition reside here too, this innate sense of knowing that we are trying to access, so it follows that this must also be reflected out into our own 3D realities. So activating our intuition doesn’t mean only looking inside of ourselves for answers, it means being constantly vigilant so that we may see them when they are shown to us in 3D.

So as well as a sense of knowing or having visions or dreams (day and night), for example, you will know your intuition is switching on when you start receiving what you need from all around. You may overhear a conversation or catch a glimpse of a newspaper headline that seems to directly answer a quandary you’re in. Or maybe the same word or image keeps popping up in different ways as if to reinforce a decision you’re trying to make. When you realize these synchronicities are more than just coincidence, and understand their significance, then you are activating your intuition, meaning you are recognizing and receiving guidance that meant for you, and probably deep down you already know this, so you are in fact receiving it from your own self.

The guidance will come from so many different sources, and your ability to differentiate between channels will depend entirely on what you are aware of, and what you believe. I believe the origin is always the same – Source energy, God, the Divine, whatever you feel comfortable calling it. It may come through guides, through your higher self, through Gaia… all are expressions of this energy and all are attending to you, protecting you and showing you how to make the best possible moves through life, at all times. Your job is to listen.

So how do you do that?

1.  The number one method is living in the present moment.

sitting in treeThis means mental, emotional and physical presence, not thinking about what you’re going to do later, or getting emotional about a conversation you had last week. It also means not trying to control, judge or change what you find in the present moment – it is the experience of pure existence. The voice of intuition is quiet, it is transient and without urgency, it resides in the spaces between thoughts, where there is space and stillness.

Eckhart Tolle says: “The easiest way to develop intuition is to develop the ability to be still at times. Rather than “trying” to develop intuition, go to the place where all intuition arises. You don’t need to worry about becoming more intuitive if you focus more on being still”.

This doesn’t literally mean not moving all the time (maybe some of the time!), rather, find or create stillness in your mind and your emotions.

2.  Don’t respond to the ego

The guidance we receive intuitively doesn’t come from the human, rational mind and ego, so the perspective (the “why” of what you are being shown or asked to do) does not come from the same place.

This means that the tricks that our ego uses to get our attention and make us do things – by comparing ourselves with others, generating fear to force us to make decisions, and making us feel like we are running out of time so need to act – messages in these forms are not coming from our intuition. Don’t be fooled.

Things we intuitively feel we should do may not seem to make sense to us, they may not appear to fit in with our life plans and they may not come from a place of logic. But a large part of intuitive living is being able to release control of the outcome and this involves trust.

3.  Ask questions

journalWhen you’re seeking advice from a friend, you first explain the situation you’re in, and then ask what they think you should do. It’s the same if you want to find an answer intuitively: you have to ask for guidance, and be specific.

You can do this by speaking out loud, in your head, or by writing in a journal.

Quite often when I sit and express my concerns about a situation through writing, the answer comes right out as I continue down the page, as though I already had it inside, I simply needed to use another medium to release it.

Start off by asking about seemingly inconsequential things – ‘should I go to this shop or that shop to buy this gift?’ Then you can begin to get more rigorous – ‘I really want more people to see my work: show me how’.

Then open up and allow the direction, the clues, the knowledge, even simple encouragement, if that’s what you need, to reveal itself. Be open and receptive and keep the energy flowing through your life by accepting new things into it, but don’t go out looking for a sign. When you are actively looking for something, you are in subconscious acceptance that it does not currently exist for you, so energetically you are resisting it. So you have unwittingly created a block to your intuitive potential. Instead you must wholly accept and believe that the answer, or outcome you need exists already. It is simply waiting for the perfect moment to make itself known to you.

4.  Meditation

Meditation is a tool to bolster all other techniques.

A regular meditational practice shows your mind the pathways to these moments of stillness, so that during ordinary life, it can navigate its way there more easily. It teaches us the to recognize the difference between the higher self, the part of us connected to Source energy, and our ego, the part of us that wants to remain separate, so that we can choose which to be directed by.

And it creates a space for us to know more clearly what we value, so that we can direct our energies where they will be of the highest benefit to us and to the world.

So why use intuition at all? Why bother training (or allowing) ourselves to be guided in this way?

Well, don’t we all want to do better, at what we’re good at, in ways that serve all of us, and make us all happier?

meditation2Following our intuition will only ever lead us in the direction of these things, because it comes from a place of higher consciousness, than that of the rational, logical mind that we otherwise use to make our decisions.  And this rational, logical mind operates within the polarity we are currently living in here on Earth, so the decisions it makes (even the ones made for our highest good) are a response to the existence of, or potentials of fear, pain and judgment. We can’t escape that.
This higher consciousness, this truthful guidance that our intuition uses, may be a higher part of ourselves, it may exist outside of ourselves, but it will never work against our highest good.  At these levels it is known that we all exist as one, so harming one part of life is harming all parts of life.

So when you commit to activating and strengthening your intuition, know that the path you are stepping onto is one of greater purpose and joy not only for you, but for all of human consciousness. The connections you are making will ultimately benefit us all.

I hope that this dark Moon brings you ample time to rest, retreat and uncover the exactly the truths you need for these changing times.
