Cancer New Moon: Return Home to Yourself

On July 10, 202, Sun and Moon meet in the comforting, maternal waters of Cancer…

We are entering a new cycle. A lunar cycle that calls for a return home.

The Moon belongs here.

There are ancient beliefs that at the moment of creation, the Moon was located in Cancer. Whilst some modern astrologers believe that the Sun actually originated in one of the faintest star clusters in the constellation of Cancer.

In ancient Greek philosophy, Cancer was named the Gate of Men. It was believed that through this stellar portal, souls descended from heaven into their earthly incarnation. And at the end of life, they ascended back up through Capricorn, Cancer’s opposite on the zodiac.

Cancer’s mother energy ripples back through time, and forward too…

Arriving here, today, in this moment as la Luna circles back home to be reborn in her watery shell

Cancer is a place of protection.

It’s a place of gentle emergence, where nurture, care, and gentleness are prioritized. This is actually the energy that the Moon is showering down on us all the time… yes all the time!

Yet when She is new here, the Moon invites a whole cycle of attention. Of holding, cradling, and mothering ourselves, in all the best ways.

Your Solar and Lunar Activation…

During a New Moon (when Sun and Moon are conjunct) both our shining, conscious, self-realized selves (our solar expression) and our inner, more hidden and mysterious, reflective selves (our lunar expression) are being activated.

At the New Moon phase, it’s as though we can be wholly synchronized in our tasks: the solar and lunar are both on an equal footing.

In this transit through Cancer, however, lunar energy wins out. La Luna takes the crown… so this flavour of the feminine in you will be drawn out, activated, enhanced, and amplified for the whole of this cycle.

What are YOUR Lunar Qualities?

These qualities are things like:

  • Sensitivity
  • Emotional awareness and capacity to emote
  • Intuitive capacity
  • Needing time to make decisions
  • The desire to comfort people you see in pain
  • Expression loving, motherly tenderness to those in need
  • Craving a home that’s comfortable, safe and secure, and wanting to provide this for others too.

These are raw and primal human expressions.

(…And NOT as you may have been led to believe, signs of weakness.)

This New Moon is calling for us to reclaim these emotions, to call them back to us and reinstate our place at their centre.

This is an empathic Moon

In the Cancerian sea of emotions, the feelings of other people can become mixed up and melted together with yours.

But try not to shy away from these depths. Don’t think you need to over-protect yourself.

Active defensiveness can be exhausting, and serve to reinforce that which we’re resisting… so instead aim for focus.

Presence.

Centering.

Poise.

This lunar cycle brings a valuable opportunity for us each to get to know ourselves, and sit with our sensitivities, reclaiming them as strength.

This Cancer New Moon brings an opportune moment to nest

To create a sanctuary, a refuge, a place of warm and womb-like safety (in both tangible terms, and in the unseen realms of experience) where you can process the transitions and transformations of this year so far.

A LOT has passed.

Do you need to course-correct?

Shift gears?

Re-align?

Set intentions for the place you see ahead. Yet be sure to stand still if you need to, for as long as you need to. Time slips away under watery Moons such as this.

Let Cancer’s waters wash over you this New Moon, let the worries of the world flow through and around you, without becoming you. To be emotionally strong does not mean hard, fierce, or defensive.

This Moon reminds us that knowing and expressing our true compassion and overriding love for our fellow humans is real strength.

New Moon blessings
